The Technical University of Munich (TUM) will be a new tenant of LabCampus GmbH, Munich Airport’s innovation campus. The university of excellence is not only moving into around 20,400 m² of the innovation hub at Munich Airport, but is also establishing a “Convergence Center” there, among other things. The new TUM Convergence Center creates a unique ecosystem in which students, scientific talents, founding teams, business partners, and citizens can work together in an integrative and innovative way on pioneering projects. The key areas of aviation, mobility, robotics and security are among the research focuses of the TUM Convergence Center. In addition, the TUM Sustainable and Future Aviation Center is being newly established, to develop viable solutions for more sustainable and efficient aviation in collaboration with Lufthansa and Munich Airport. A letter of intent was signed today between the three partners.

TUM finds the ideal environment at LabCampus. From the end of 2025, the scientific young talents of TUM will meet the innovation ecosystem of the LabCampus tenant community here. "We are pleased that the Technical University of Munich is bringing such a great initiative to Munich Airport and LabCampus. TUM is an important building block for LabCampus and offers potential for the further development of the concept and the area," says Nathalie Leroy, CFO Munich Airport. "LabCampus is so much more than just an office location. It is a place where people meet and exchange ideas. Munich Airport sees itself as a connecting element for global science with the Free State of Bavaria and the research location Munich."
With the move of TUM, the buildings LAB 48 and LAB 52 are almost fully leased: only 5,000 square meters are now available in the two existing buildings for potential companies. One of the next steps is to plan a serviced apartment west of LAB 48 and LAB 52.
LabCampus offers international companies, hidden champions, scale-ups and young talents the ideal conditions for collaborative work and cross-sector exchange on the Munich Airport Campus. The German Air Traffic Control (DFS), the AirportAcademy and amplimind are already working in the first two buildings, LAB 48 and LAB 52. Exotec will move into its rooms in LAB 48 in fall 2024, followed by Lufthansa Aviation Training GmbH (LAT) in early 2025.
